I teach ages 8 and up guitar, ukulele, coach singers, songwriters, and performers at Maple Street Guitars in Atlanta, as well as at home in Kirkwood. I’ve been teaching guitar since age 18. I teach a variety of styles: acoustic slide, fingerstyle, pop, blues, folk, rock, country blues, classical guitar, and songwriting. I also organize an annual Master Class, and a monthly informal “Guitar Pull.”

Lessons are $45 per half hour, paid in blocks of four. Cash, checks, Venmo, and Zelle are accepted forms of payment.

Testimonials

Guitar Student

Prior to working with Bucky, I had next to zero musical experience. I was apprehensive about my lack of skill and needed a guitar instructor who could provide guidance at a pace I could handle. Bucky has been the perfect instructor for me. Within just a few months, I went from essentially no guitar skills to having the ability to play more than two dozen chords, some basic music theory and enough confidence to tackle learning new songs and playing in front of other people. Bucky is encouraging and he pushes just enough to keep my skill set growing each week. I would highly recommend lessons with Bucky to anyone!

I was just thinking about you today, while looking up song lyrics and seeing wrong chords posted online. You taught me to work out guitar chords by ear, and not trust every randomly transcribed Internet version! Thank you, Bucky! The skills you taught me have been invaluable!

Bucky has really helped me as a recording and touring artist over the years. I have been taking Bel Canto style voice lessons for years now, and the difference in my pitch, tone, and performance is astounding. Bel Canto is the ancient Operatic method for singing Opera Singers have handed down for centuries. At first I was skeptical since my primary genre is rock, folk, and more modern sounding singing, but the Bel Canto method has helped me find my real voice that was hidden beneath a hodgepodge of influences I've had through-out my life. I recommend Bucky for voice, guitar, and as a songwriter I take my songs to Bucky first to get feedback on improving them, and craft.

Those who can, teach.

I teach guitar and coach singers, songwriters and performers at Maple Street Guitars in Atlanta and at home in Kirkwood. I began teaching guitar in 1978 at Ken Stanton Music in Marietta, Georgia, my hometown. I have a degree in Classical Guitar Performance from Georgia State University where I studied with John Sutherland, a student of Andres Segovia.

I organize an annual Master Class for my students, and guests have included Amy Ray, Emily Saliers, Sonia Leigh, Girlyman, John McCutcheonSam McPherson and Michelle Melone.

The last Sunday of every month, I hold an informal “Guitar Pull” for my students, where we workshop songwriters’ songs, jam, and perform whatever we’ve been working on at our lessons for each other. It’s usually composed of 5-8 students. It’s a great way to learn how to perform in front of people. Everyone is very supportive and encouraging of each other. It’s a fun way to spend a couple of hours on a Sunday!

If you’d like to study with me, contact me via email: bucky@buckymotter.com, or text me at 404-272-4393.
